Introducing Equal Measure Arts

Artist Spotlight: Alma June

Inclusivity.

Community.

Education.

all  in  equal  measure.

Equal Measure Arts was founded in 2024 as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit to make music production & audio engineering training more accessible to students and other under-resourced musicians in partnership with professional recording studios.

Our core values are self-empowerment through education, and inclusivity through community outreach — so that together we can ensure that the diverse voices of our vibrant community are amplified in equal measure.

EQUAL MEASURE ARTS OPEN STUDIOS:

AUDIO PRODUCTION WORKSHOP SERIES

THANKS TO OUR STUDIO PARTNERS AT THE MAINE COLLEGE OF ART & DESIGN AND MONACO STUDIOS, this summer we are offering a new series of weekly hands-on educational sessions for aspiring audio engineers and music producers eager to explore the creative and technical possibilities of a professional recording studio. Hosted by expert engineers with years of experience as musicians and producers, these sessions will be catered to the interests of the attendees, allowing participants to experiment with state-of-the-art equipment in a low-pressure environment while making meaningful connections with their peers and industry professionals. When you attend one of these sessions, we encourage you to bring any projects in process to share for feedback, any instruments you would like to experiment with recording, and any other questions or topics related to audio production & the music industry that you’d like to explore. Limited spots will be available on a first-come, first-served basis, with session fees offered on a sliding scale to maximize accessibility while covering the facilities’ overhead.

Fee structure: $10–$25 per session (pay-what-you-can)

$40–$100 for a month of sessions at either/both studios (4 sessions total)

Morning sessions:

Thursdays, 10am–12pm at MECA&D

Portland, Maine

Facilitated by Hunter Coleman (MECA&D alum, drummer and producer for local acts Oodelally & Emily Irving)

Evening sessions:

Tuesdays, 6–8pm at Monaco Studios

Falmouth, Maine

Facilitated by Ethan Woodman Fowler (music teacher at PATHS, lifelong musician, professional producer)

Support equal access to professional recording!

Our recording scholarships ensure that we can continue to support the musical development of students and other talented emerging artists, whether or not they have the resources to do so themselves.

$100 = 1 hour of studio time for an artist to make their musical dream a reality!

Consider making a recurring tax-deductible donation to maximize your impact.

Help us reach our goal to establish a studio scholarship fund…

10% of our $50k initial fundraising goal raised thanks to you!*

*why $50k?

good question!

if we can reach $50k with your help, that will equate to enough funding for ~50 more songs produced for students and marginalized musicians, essentially doubling our existing impact. help us amplify voices in equal measure!

what we’ve been up to…

Spotlight: Aedan MacDougall

A full-length record produced with high school seniors Rascal Van

Aedan MacDougall of Gorham, ME, is a graduate of Portland Arts & Technology High School’s music program, taught by EMA board members Victoria Stubbs and Ethan Woodman Fowler. His band Rascal Van completed their debut album with us during their senior year of high school, and Aedan is now pursuing music at Berklee College after interning with us during his gap year. Your donation will support more professional-quality recordings with young & emerging artists like this!

Community collaborations

Recording Wabanaki music for the Children's Museum of Maine

Though we are based out of Monaco Studios in Falmouth, Maine, we love teaming up with other like-minded organizations around southern Maine and beyond. In the past couple of years, we’ve partnered on projects with the Maine Academy of Modern Music, Mayo Street Arts, the Children’s Museum and Theatre of Maine, Royal River Community Players, All Roads Music Festival, Communityz Recordz, and WMPG. If you’re reading this and have an idea for a collaboration with us, don’t be shy – drop us a line today!

Studio internship program

High school & college interns work together producing a new song

We’ve had the pleasure of working with many local high schools to host promising young musicians and engineers in our studio internship and job shadowing programs. Our studio environment is warm and inviting, and our staff is knowledgeable and unpretentious, which makes for an incredibly conducive educational experience. Recognizing these unique qualities is what inspired us to form this nonprofit, leaning into our work with students and supporting others who have struggled to afford studio time.
